I've gotten attached by some piece of Spyware that I can't get rid of.

Every time my IE 6.0 browser opens up, it defaults to a "web page" called

res://mntbo.dll/index.html#12802

I've tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it including:

- multiple consecutive runs of Norton AV 2004
- manual registry cleaning of all references to "mntbo"
- deletion of the mntbo.dll file from my hard drive

Any clues?

Thanks!

Find and dowload adaware, spybot, and cwshredder.
Make sure you update before you run.
Delete or fix anything they recommend that you delete or fix.
Run them in safe mode.
NAV won't touch spyware.
I also like Zone Alarm in the loop.
Beyond that is a progran called Hijack This. That will run and then
print out your full registry.
A site called Computercops can analyze your registry for you. They are
very very busy so it takes a creative subject line to get their
attention sometimes.
Been there, done all this, things a lot better now but it was a lot of
work. I'm strictly an ameteur but am learning a lot on the subjec.
Also, Google mntbo.dll. May find some helpful hints there.

Go to to www.winpatrol.com ... download the free WinPatrol
and set it up ... it stops cold the hijacks and other malware
out there now .... nothing can be changed in registry nor any
new software without you knowing about it 1st. ... you can
shut out the junk real fast ... has save my butt many times

Thanks to all who've responded to my post about this spyware.

Unfortunately, NAV2004, Spybot, AAdware, CWShredder have not been able to

remove it.

What I did was downloaded, installed, and updated Spyware Blaster. I then
ran AdAware and Spybot. Afterwards, I changed my default home page to
about:blank (actually, it's about:mozilla, you get a blank blue screen that
way).

Since then, no problem. SpyBot prevents the homepage from being changed, and
Spyware Blaster, prevents the rest.

The new version of AdAware should take of this new parasite.

This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware, parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
